Montrose boss Stewart Petrie is looking for more home comfort when his side face Berwick Rangers this afternoon.

The Gable Endies secured what could prove to be a priceless victory last week at Links Park against Cowdenbeath with the win increasing the gap over the bottom side – and the dreaded pyramid play-off spot – to five points.

The 2-1 win over the Blue Brazil came at a cost though with Matty Smith and Gary Fraser both now suspended after picking up red cards in the game.

However, while Petrie’s squad will be stretched against Berwick, he is looking to make home advantage count again with the manager determined that Montrose will become a place to be feared by opposing teams.

He said: “It was a fantastic result for us last week against Cowdenbeath.

“We had to make a few changes and we had lost a bit of experience but the lads did really well.

“We may not have hit the heights in terms of our play but the team showed the hunger and desire to get the win.

“We will take that result all day long and it was a vital three points.

“The boys showed great character to cope with losing a late goal and having the energy to go up and secure a winner.

“Even then we had to hang on with just nine men.

“We will be without Cammy and Gary who are suspended while Michael Bolochoweckyj is injured so the squad will be stretched again.

“However, it is a chance for others to stake a claim for the jersey in what is another huge game for us.

“I went to watch Berwick a couple of weeks ago at Arbroath and the 4-1 win flattered the home side.

“Berwick are well organised and will be difficult opponents but we are determined to pick up more points especially at home.

“We want to make Links Park a place where other teams don’t like going to.”

Meanwhile, Petrie is still hopeful of bringing in one or two players before the transfer window closes.
