Montrose boss Stewart Petrie praised his side as they fought back from a goal down to beat Berwick Rangers 2-1.
The Gable Endies now occupy the lofty heights of fifth place in League Two – just outside the play-off positions – and have suffered only one defeat in the seven matches since Petrie took over the managerial hotseat.
Petrie said: “It was a great win to come from 1-0 down.
“Berwick are a handful and considering the injuries and suspensions we had it was a credit to our squad.
“I changed things around at half-time as Ross Campbell had been a bit isolated.
“I put Ryan Ferguson up top alongside him, then Chris Templeman went on and things worked out perfectly. Chris scored then Ryan scored as well.
“I maintain that substitutes can be worth 10 to 15 points a season to a side and Chris did the trick for us.
“We were hanging on for victory against Cowdenbeath last week but this time we looked a bit more solid at the back.
“Berwick are a real threat but we stood up to them well.
“Winning breeds confidence and my players are giving me everything.”
Berwick had most of the first-half chances and in 11 minutes a shot from Steven Thomson was cleared off the Montrose line.
The hosts went close when Greg Pascazio headed just wide from a corner then, on the stroke of half-time, Brian Martin almost gave them the lead when he sliced the ball over his own crossbar.
It was Berwick who opened the scoring on 51 minutes. Gary Phillips crossed from the left and Michael McKenna scored with a shot through a crowd of players.
Montrose levelled 10 minutes later. Terry Masson sent in a corner and Templeman rose to bullet home a header with only his second touch after going on as a substitute.
The Gable Endies had their tails up and they took a 2-1 lead in 69 minutes. The experienced Martin was short with a passback to his keeper and Ferguson ran in to supply the coolest of finishes.
As time ticked away, Jordan Millar clawed away a lob from Darren Lavery, then Pat Scullion missed a sitter from close range.
