Arbroath boss Dick Campbell keeping his cool as title race hots up

The League 2 title race may be hotting up but wily veteran manager Dick Campbell is determined to keep his cool and maintain his mantra of just taking things “one game at a time”.

As the Red Lichties were beating Clyde at Gayfield last week, table-toppers Forfar were slipping up at home, losing to Edinburgh City.

That left Campbell’s men just three points behind their Angus neighbours and with Arbroath’s nearest challengers, third-placed Elgin also losing at Annan, it was a good day all round.

Forfar travel to face Elgin this afternoon, however, the manager is determined to ignore the wider picture and instead is just fully focused on his side’s own game at Berwick and attempting to secure another three points.

He said: “It goes without saying that last weekend was a good one for us.

“We managed to beat a very good Clyde side at home while Forfar and Elgin lost.

“However, I am not going to talk about others – it is all about what we do.

“As soon as you start looking too far ahead and what the opposition are doing, that’s when you can slip up.

“So we will just go about our business and see where it takes us.

“It is a cliché but at this crucial stage of the season, it really is just one game at a time. So we will look forward to going to Berwick and then take it from there.

“Eddie Ferns looks like he will miss out with an ankle injury and there is a doubt over Jassem Sukar which is a blow as he has been an important player for us.

“Gavin Malin may come back in or on-loan Dundee player Matty Smyth. Omar Kader is also in my thoughts.”
