Brechin boss Darren Dods hopes his old club don’t get any more penalties

Brechin City boss Darren Dods has joked that he hopes his old team St Johnstone have used up their penalty allocation.

Not only did Saints, who visit Glebe Park tonight, get awarded no fewer than three spotkicks against Falkirk on Saturday, City also had one scored against them as they lost 4-2 at Elgin City.

City had been bossing the match at Borough Briggs until seconds before half-time when Craig Gunn converted from the spot after Chris O’Neil was adjudged to have pulled the shirt of Chris McLeish in the penalty-box.

They ended up chasing the game after that so it’s understandable that Dods is keen for the Perth men not to get any more spotkicks when the sides meet in Group B of the Betfred Cup tonight.

Dods, a former favourite at McDiarmid Park, said: “I would be happy for my old team not to get any more penalties!

“We got one against us at Elgin for shirt-pulling and there is meant to be a clampdown but it seems that some referees are giving them and some not.

“We were doing OK until then and were a bit unfortunate to lose the penalty when we did.

“However, we are back home now and there should be a good crowd for a match against a very good team.

“St Johnstone having been doing really well in the cup so far and scoring plenty of goals.

“It will be tough for us but we are looking for a better display than the one at Elgin.”

City’s only injury absentee will be Paul McLean but Dods is expected to make some changes in order to freshen up his team.
