Double injury blow for Montrose

Montrose manager Paul Hegarty.

Montrose boss Paul Hegarty is coming to terms with the prospect of having to do without two of his summer signings for a large chunk of the season.

Chris Hegarty has ruptured his Achilles tendon and Michael Bolochoweckyj has damaged ankle ligaments.

Both players are due to return to hospital next month for further medical assessment but good news is unlikely.

Hegarty reported: “Michael is probably looking at several weeks and Chris’s lay-off is likely to be lengthy.

“It’s a major blow for them and the club. They’ve fitted in well and are important, experienced members of the squad.

“We’ll know more when they go back for scans in August.

“Last year we lost three players in one game with bad injuries so it’s a real set-back to have something similar happen again.

“We’ll hang fire just now and give the players here an opportunity to shine before we decide whether we need to bring in anybody else.”

Montrose face Cove Rangers at Station Park tonight in the last of their Betfred Cup games. A win would be a perfect-me-up for the team.

There is no chance of progressing to the next round but Hegarty said: “We want to win every game.

“This will be another tough game.

“A win tomorrow would give the place a boost.”
