Brechin boss Darren Dods glad to put last season to one side

Brechin boss Darren Dods is looking forward to kicking the new season off in the Betfred Cup against Peterhead at Glebe Park as it will move his side further away from the misery of their last campaign.

Dods’ team failed to win a game in the Championship and won only once in the Cup competitions however a new dawn is breaking in Angus.

Dods said: “We know last season was a difficult and disappointing one, however that is gone now.

“We have had a good pre-season where we drew with Dundee and defeated Formartine and, whilst they were only friendlies, getting positive results in them moved us along the road further away from the last campaign.

“We also put on a good display in a 1-0 defeat from Dundee United so things are going along in the right direction.

“We have changed the squad a bit as well and that has helped bring a freshness in.

“We are looking forward to starting again when Peterhead visit.

“They have recruited quality players particularly up front.

“They are quite rightly the favourites for their league and will be looking to get things off to a positive start.

“However, we cannot wait to get going again as well as what is done is done.”

Dods has added former Stranraer midfielder Giuliano Morena to his squad.

He said: “Giuliano has returned to Scotland after a break and wanted to pick up his career again.

“He gained a good bit of experience playing at Stranraer before returning to Italy and has shaped up well in pre-season.

“Our other new signings, Conor Brennan, Sean Burns, Jordan Tapping, Dene Shields and Dougie Hill, have all added value since coming in and that value will be tested against Peterhead.”

The injured Ryan McGeever and Andy Jackson miss out for Brechin.
