Graham Carey is hoping to go down the coaching route, according to St Johnstone boss, Simo Valakari.

But the Irishman says Carey the manager might find Carey the player hard to deal with!

Saints fans were treated to a few magic moments from the former Plymouth Argyle star over his three seasons at McDiarmid Park.

Valakari decided not to offer the 35-year-old a fresh deal after his latest contract finished last weekend.

And there was an amicable parting of the ways meeting with Carey in the head coach’s office last Monday morning.

Still wants to play

“I had a very good discussion with G,” said Valakari.

“I told him it was my pleasure to work with him.

“What I liked about him was that what you see is what you get.

“I saw his brilliant moments – we’ll never forget that goal against Livingston and there were others.

“But I could also sense his frustrations.

“He still wants to play but I think he wants to get into coaching as well.

“This sums up his sense of humour very well.

“I asked him that when he becomes a coach, how would he handle a player like him?

“He said: ‘It would be difficult!’

“When you are that good sometimes it’s difficult to understand, and be patient with, players around you who don’t see the game as you see it.

“Plus, there’s the frustration of your body not being able to do the same things at the end of your career as it could at the start and the middle.

“He’s still got some games left in his body and let’s hope we don’t have to play against him.”
