St Johnstone are closing in on the signing of former Hamilton Accies defender, Reghan Tumilty.
Right-back has been a priority position for Simo Valakari since he arrived in Scotland but he was unable to adequately address it in the January transfer window.
The Perth boss has identified Tumilty as the man to fill that gap after the 28-year-old decided not to stay in Lanarkshire.
Tumilty was one of the Championship’s top-performing full-backs last season.
He is renowned for his attacking prowess.
After two excellent seasons with Raith Rovers, Tumilty was linked with a number of Premiership sides in the summer of 2022, but decided to move to Hartlepool before returning to Scotland with Hamilton, where he scored a winning goal in the final of the SPFL Trust Trophy.
If a deal gets completed, he will be Saints’ fourth summer signing.
The common denominator between the quartet will be Championship experience.
Jack Baird, Morgan Boyes and Jamie Gullan have all been first team regulars in that division, as has Tumilty, who had several other offers for his next career move.
Valakari is set to have the backbone of a squad in place for the start of pre-season training on June 23 as he seeks to return Saints to the top-flight at the first time of asking.
