Reghan Tumilty felt destined to become a St Johnstone player, as the defender revealed his strong family connections with the Perth club.
The 28-year-old right-back has signed a one-year deal after leaving Hamilton Accies at the end of last season.
And, without even kicking a ball for Saints, there is already an instant connection.
“My dad lived in North Muirton,” said Tumilty.
“And I’ve got my uncle and his family who are season ticket holders.
“My wee cousin does the programmes on a Saturday.
“I think this was meant to be. I feel good here. When this was an option, it was a no-brainer.”
Tumilty, who counts Dundee United, Ross County, Falkirk, Morton, Raith Rovers and Hartlepool United as other former clubs, added: “I’m honoured, to be honest.
“I’m looking forward to the season ahead and can’t wait to get started.
“I know it’s a cliché, but I am buzzing to get going.
“When I played here in the cup with Hamilton last season, the atmosphere was brilliant.
“Hopefully the fans can help push us on.”
Up and down the pitch
Head coach, Simo Valakari, will have been impressed with Tumilty’s reputation as a defender who creates and scores goals when he did his homework on his latest recruit.
“I’m an attacking full-back,” he said.
“You’ll see me in the box trying to score goals but I also like to create.
“I’ll put everything into this and will be up and down the right side non-stop.
“The games will come thick and fast but we’ll quickly get used to playing with each other.”
Tumilty is summer signing number five, with Sam Stanton also joining on a one year deal this week.
Saints return for pre-season training on Monday.
