Andre Raymond will get a St Johnstone “clean slate”, according to head coach, Simo Valakari.
Along with Josh Rae, the Trinidad and Tobago international was transfer-listed at the end of last season.
Rae has since been signed by Raith Rovers, but Raymond remains a Saints player and will join up with the Perth squad for pre-season training this week.
The full-back spent the last few months of the 2024/25 season on loan with Dunfermline, having fallen out of Valakari’s plans for the Premiership survival battle.
He failed to hold down a starting place at East End Park and there was no suggestion Neil Lennon wanted to keep Raymond in Fife, as was the case with Barry Robson and Rae at Rovers.
However, the 24-year-old has fared better on the international scene, and ended his country’s Gold Cup campaign in America as a starter.
And now Valakari, yet to sign a left-back, has pledged to look at Raymond with fresh eyes.
‘A lot can happen’
“There hasn’t been any contact from other clubs,” the Finn reported.
“He’s our player and will get the same opportunities as everybody else.
“That’s the beauty of pre-season.
“It’s a clean slate.
“What has happened in the past stays in the past.
“Now it’s up to everybody to show their best.
“A lot of things can happen.
“Yes, it will be my decision who plays and who doesn’t play.
“Andre is the same as the other players – he needs to show that he wants to play here.”
