Richie Ramsay will start The Open without having hit a shot at Royal Troon.
The Aberdeen golfer, who qualified for the championship by finishing tied-sixth in the Scottish Open last week, has been suffering with a sickness bug.
The illness wiped out his Tuesday practice plans entirely, and yesterday Ramsay was only up to walking the course and spending a bit of time on the putting green.
“I haven’t been sick today so that’s a bonus,” he said.
“Yesterday I was throwing up almost the whole day.
“I got meds last night and I am feeling much better today. I walked the course. I haven’t played it as I need to rest up.
“I feel my game is in a really good place at the minute so I just need to conserve my energy to make sure I am ready for tomorrow.
“Everything is fine, I will just do a bit of putting and get as ready as I can.”
Ramsay is trying his best to remain philosophical about his far from perfect Open build-up.
“It obviously isn’t ideal preparation but I can’t do anything about it,” he pointed out.
“I have got to make the best of a bad situation rather than worrying about what I can’t help.
“I just have to crack on. I know what I have to do on the course, it is just a matter of going out there and doing it.
“I have a good draw as I’m out early (7.19am). Hopefully I will get out there before the wind gets up and post a good score.”
