Beef Shorthorn females hit some of the top prices and stole the breed’s limelight when they went through the ring at Stirling.

Douglas McMillan’s draft from his Coldrochie herd at Moneydie Roger, Luncarty made the day’s top of 11000gns for Coldrochie Grace Beauty, an 18-month-old heifer by Knockenjig Foremost. She was bought by JR Graham and Partners, Greenshields, Biggar.

Other Coldrochie females sold to 7500gns to 5500gns twice to Rutland and Cornwall, 4500gns to Newark; 4200gns and 4000gns three times.

Also reducing his herd successfully was Major Gibb, Glenisla House, Blairgowrie who sold to a top of 6500gns for Glenisla Desiree, a 19-month-old heifer by Glenisla Excalibur. She was bought by Northern Ireland breeders Cherryvalley Farms.

Major Gill also sold at 5500gns to KWW Brown, Craigowmill Farm, Milnathort and at 5000gns to James Cameron, Blairgowrie Road, Cupar Angus and at the same price to I Tennant, Lanarkshire.

Orcadian farmers paid the top prices for Beef Shorthorn bulls which sold to 6500gns.

Isle of Sanday farmer I Brown of Millbrae bought the unplaced sire, Rumsden Harry for 6500gns from Sarah Wilkins, of Jarvis Brook, and at 4200gns W Muir, Upper Ouston, Stenness bought Langalbuinoch Hitman from R and P McAlister of Lingarth on the Isle of Bute. Also at 4200gns Donald Biggar sold Chapelton Ruthie to Ryday.

Other top prices include 4000gns for the champion, Willingham Jagersfontein, and 4000gns for Donald Biggar’s sire to Fiona Wilson, Fordie, Torphins. Henderson Farms, Bogtonlea, Dunning paid 3200gns for the third-prize bull, Knockenjig Jester and William Young and Son, Templehall, Auchtertool paid 3000gns for Galla Jubilee.

The reserve champion Chapelton Junot was bought for 2500gns by Ian Fleming, Renton Home Farm, Granthouse.
