Greece and her islands are just waiting to be discovered all year round.

Attracting more than 13 million tourists every year, Greece is one of the world’s most popular holiday destinations.

Boasting stunning beaches coupled with centuries of history, and traditional sugar-cube towns are just the start of what the country has to offer.

The islands: The largest of the Greek islands is Crete, which boasts 650 miles of coastline and some impressive historical sights.

Corfu is known for its lush interior.

Rhodes, meanwhile, gets the prize for the best sunshine record and neighbouring Kos and Zante, have a bustling nightlife.

Lesser-known isles: Santorini, Mykonos and Skiathos have all put a cosmopolitan gloss on the classic Greek combination of sun, sea and sand.

Thassos and Samos like to stay out of the spotlight the beaches here are pretty isolated and remain largely unspoilt.

Mykonos has become a lively favourite, combining sophistication, glamour and thriving nightlife with its natural beauty and historic treasures.

The island can really be enjoyed at its best out of season when a quieter and more subdued pace of life prevails.

The weather may be unpredictable but you will see this beautiful island when it is less crowded.

Greece is one of the world’s most popular holiday hot spots and as such attracts a variety of visitors.

The natural beauty of the islands in particular offers spectacular scenery.

Depending on which area you choose will determine who your fellow holidaymakers will be, but as a rule, expect to find couples and families from all over Europe.

In some of the livelier resorts you may encounter groups of young people and after dark may be rowdier but Greek authorities take a dim view of public drunken-ness. Consult resort guides before booking to make the right choice.
