Emmerdale’s Jeff Hordley has said Cain Dingle hits a new low when he falls out with his wife and daughter over the death of Joe Tate.

Cain has already told Moira (Natalie J Robb) he believes he is responsible for Joe’s death.

And in upcoming scenes in the ITV soap he shares his secret with daughter Debbie (Charley Webb), who was set to marry Joe.

The actor said: “He explains he punched him once, wanted to hurt him for what he had done to her, but didn’t want to kill him. His head hit a rock – didn’t even hit him that hard.

“He explains it was a freak accident.”

Debbie is devastated by Cain’s betrayal.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen now,” said the actor.

“To play the truth of this there has to be a rift. But can they come back from that?”

The row also sparks trouble between Cain and Moira, and they end up in a physical argument.

Hordley said Cain is at rock bottom “like never before” after the tense scenes.

“A new low,” he said.

Emmerdale continues on ITV.
