Former X Factor stars John and Edward Grimes have paid tribute to their mother Susanna, who has died following a battle with cancer.

The identical twins, known as Jedward, wrote on their official Twitter account: “Rest In Peace Mammy. You live on through us.

“We will miss you and your smile. You shaped the character of who we are.

“Mammy lived with cancer for many years but was always full of life! You live on in our Memories and will always be alive in our Hearts.”

The twins, 27, shared two pictures of themselves with their mother along with their post.

Susanna managed her sons following their rise to fame 10 years ago.

The Irish singers first found fame when they appeared on The X Factor in 2009, although they were a divisive act on the programme.

They have had three number one albums in Ireland, and reached number two in the UK charts with their breakout single Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby) with rapper Vanilla Ice.

The twins represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 with the song Lipstick, before returning again in 2012 with the song Waterline.

The duo have appeared in Celebrity Big Brother twice, first in 2011 and then again in 2017, where they came in second place.
