Titian’s masterpiece Diana and Actaeon is proving popular with visitors to The McManus Galleries in Dundee.
Colin Duncan, from the Baxter Park area of the city, said it was his first visit since the gallery’s refurbishment.
He said, “It’s not very often you get an artist like this and I think there’s been a lot of interest and a lot of people have been coming specifically to see it.”
Bus driver Derek Irons said, “It’s nice and shows the female form in its true glory. I think it’s a beautiful painting and I wish there were more like it.”
Joukje Leeuwenkamp from Sneek, Holland, said, “I really liked it. This is a big gallery and I really loved it. It’s our first time in Dundee and I think people will be drawn here because of the Titian.”
Laurien Torenvlied, also from Holland, said, “I like the Titian. It’s wonderful. It was the first thing we came to.”
Her 13-year-old daughter Mille disagreed, however, describing the painting as “a bit boring.”
She said, “I don’t like the frame and the colours are very contrasting and I don’t like all these nude ladies.”
