Fifestock 2011 opens up with Benny Gallagher

Benny Gallagher helps kickstart Fifestock 2011 at the Green Hotel in Kinross tonight.

One half of hit makers Gallagher & Lyle, he began his career as a staff writer with the Beatles’ music publishing company writing songs for Apple Records’ then biggest artist Mary Hopkin under the guidance of Paul McCartney.

His band McGuinness Flint flew to the top of the charts with their hit songs When I’m Dead and Gone and Malt and Barley Blues.

As Gallagher & Lyle (with Graham), hits Heart on my Sleeve and I Wanna Stay With You followed and the title track of their album, Breakaway, was recorded by Art Garfunkel.

Through the years he’s worked with Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Pete Townsend, Ronnie Lane, Ronnie Wood, Gary Brooker, Georgie Fame, Mary Hopkin, Elkie Brooks, Ralph McTell, Sandy Denny the list goes on.

See him live at the Green Hotel in Kinross tonight as part of Fifestock. Tickets are £15 and the music starts at 9pm.
