Duke’s Corner date for Emma’s Imagination

Young Scottish singer Emma Gillespie comes to Duke’s Corner on Tuesday.

The Edinburgh-born star, who shot to fame when she won Sky 1’s Must Be The Music show and fortune when she picked up a cool £100,000 as the prize has had a meteoric rise in the business.

Since the show she has landed a record deal with Gary Barlow’s Future Records label and has had two top-10 singles and a top-14 debut album. Add to that an exhausting schedule of gigs, promotional shows and tours and it’s hardly surprising her success hasn’t sunk in yet.

Emma told Rocktalk, “I’ve been too busy to think about it all properly it’s been pretty overwhelming since the show. One day, maybe next year, I’ll sit down and think, ‘Oh yeah, it’s been amazing and this has happened and that has happened.’ But it’s been great, even if it’s been so busy.

“Gary Barlow has been brilliant he’s such a nice, down-to-earth person and he’s been really encouraging. I’ve met all the other guys from Take That as well, apart from Robbie Williams.

“I’ve moved down to live in London. I was living in Glasgow but I was up and down so it made sense to move down.”

The 27-year-old is out on a solo acoustic tour just now, which brings her to Dundee.

“I’m really looking forward to coming to Dundee. The live performances are what it is all about for me. Along with creating music in the studio, it’s the best job in the world.”

Emma’s Imagination is at Duke’s on Tuesday, supported by The Strangers Almanac. Doors open at 8pm and entry is £3.
