Help! Did you see The Beatles in Dundee in the 60s?

To celebrate the first Scottish Beatles Weekend, the organisers are hoping to do something very special and it could be YOUR help they’re looking for.

If you are lucky enough to have been around when The Beatles visited Dundee in 1963 and 1964 and would like to share your memories, then get in touch.

“The Beatles and Dundee have an important and significant connection,” says Lorraine Wilson, one of the event’s organisers. “One of Dundee’s best-known sons, Andy Lothian, is the man who brought the band to this part of the world for the first time and this is one of the few places in Scotland that The Beatles performed before their American success.

“Andy will be sharing his stories with The Courier over the coming weeks, but it would be great to hear from anyone who saw the band, who worked at the Caird Hall at that time or who came across The Beatles in any capacity while they were here.”

The aim is to make a mini-documentary to record those memories, which will be premiered at the event, which is happening from from August 12-14.

“The film will not only be a great event for the first Scottish Beatles Weekend, but it will give many people the chance to be involved and share in a piece of the city’s musical history.

“We are also looking for any memorabilia from the time to form part of a small exhibition, linking the band to Dundee,” Lorraine added.

“There are spectacular Beatles events across the world, but this is the first major one in Scotland and it would be fantastic to give those visiting the city for the first time a taste of Dundee.”If you’d like to share your memories with those attending the first Scottish Beatles Weekend, email scottishbeatlesweekend@gmail.com or contact Lorraine on 07812 037974.
