Mock the Week comedian Andy Parsons had the Whitehall Theatre in his sights as he started the Dundee leg of his UK tour in hilarious fashion.
Parsons said it was a joy to be playing in a theatre situated in the middle of nowhere, on a derelict street, next to wasteground and a 24-hour bakery.
He also thanked the theatre for managing to squeeze him in ahead of the Dundee Scout Gang Show, the Singing Kettle and Peppa Pig.
It might have had theatre staff cringing, but Parsons had the theatre in uproar as he tore apart his surroundings before showing why he is one of Britain’s top comedians on Saturday.
In a set which lasted just under a couple of hours, Parsons gave his views on the coalition government, the banking crisis, the economic downturn and the hilarious story of how he found a pair of underpants in a jar of mayonnaise.
Parsons also spoke about BP chief executive Tony Hayward getting a £600,000 pension after standing down following the Gulf of Mexico oil leak.
He suggested that if you knew you would get a £600,000 a year pension if there was an oil leak you’d be going round the rigs with a sledgehammer.
This was thought-provoking political comedy at its best, and, unlike gigs from his former stablemate Frankie Boyle, the gags weren’t straight from Mock The Week.
The wheezing delivery of Andy Parsons has seen him described as “like some frustrated town crier” and this was one set of public announcements worth hearing.
