Mazda 5 gets a diesel engine

A few months after its launch, the new generation Mazda 5 people carrier gets a diesel engine.

The 1.6 litre unit develops 113bhp, making it both more powerful and lighter than the 2.0 litre diesel used in previous incarnations of the car.

A 0-62mph time of 13.7 seconds and a top speed of 111mpg mean it’ll lag behind petrol models when it comes to outright pace, but you should save time when it comes to fuel stops the diesel does 54.3mpg.

It’s not available in entry level TS trim, but comes in either TS2 or Sport guises, with prices starting from £20,650.
