Preparations for one of Maggie’s flagship fund-raising events in Fife are well under way.
The Monster Bike and Hike, a 24-hour fund-raising team challenge from Fort William through to Inverness, is in its eighth year.
The challenge, covering 73 miles along the Great Glen Way, will coincide this year with the fifth anniversary of the opening of the Maggie’s Centre in Fife.
Tumong Edwards, community fund-raiser for the Kirkcaldy centre, said it was decided to join the two anniversaries together and lead by example by taking part and attempting to get 55 Fifers to join her.
She said, “Monster 2010 raised over £600,000 for Maggie’s. It is an incredibly important event for the charity and one that captures the imagination of people across Scotland.
“I decided to sign up for 2011 to give myself a fitness focus and to have a great weekend with friends.”
She added, “Our Dundee centre came up with the idea of getting 101 Dundonians to take part, a play on 101 Dalmations.
“So I came up with the tongue twister of 55 for Maggie’s Fife.”
The eighth Monster Bike and Hike takes place between April 30 and May 1 to find out more should visit its website.
