Second world war veteran Bernard Morgan has shared his experiences with young cadets on a visit to RAF Leuchars.
The visit was part of the Fife base’s three planned Easter cadet camps.
There are over 2700 (ATC) Air Training Corps cadets in 120 squadrons across Scotland, with RAF Leuchars being home to the regional headquarters.
Cadets were joined by Mr Morgan a former RAF code and cypher operator with 83 Group Control Centre, 2nd Tactical Air Force, who landed on Gold Beach on D-Day 1944.
A friend of Edinburgh Academy Combined Cadet Force, Mr Morgan shared his wartime experiences with cadets, illustrating his recollections with artifacts including his battledress blouse and forage cap, as well as the leaflet which was distributed to troops immediately prior to disembarkation, and a French phrase book.
Not having been on an operational station since 1942, Mr Morgan was most interested in current RAF technology. He was particularly impressed by the new Typhoon aircraft and very much enjoyed a visit to No 6 Squadron.
“I very much appreciated the hospitality shown me by all at RAF Leuchars,” he said.
The acting station commander, Wing Commander Patrick O’Donnell, said, “The Easter cadet camps offer a terrific opportunity for the ATC to spend time immersed in a service environment.”
