Frank Kopel dementia campaign petition launched online

A campaign for early onset dementia sufferers launched last month by the family of Dundee United legend Frank Kopel has taken a step forward with the opening of a Scottish Parliament petition.
The 64-year-old former left-back, who lifted the League Cup twice during his 10 years at Tannadice, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2009.
His wife Amanda and son Scott are calling on the Scottish Government to offer free personal care to under-65s with dementia.
Currently Frank’s family have to pay the council hundreds of pounds for a carer and they want an audience with MSPs so that they can explain their daily struggle.
TV presenter Lorraine Kelly and singer Ricky Ross have lent their voices to the Kopels’ campaign and a Facebook page has gained more than 1,000 supporters.
Now a Scottish Parliament petition has gone live and Amanda has urged people to back it before the June 21 deadline.
“We need as many people as we can to sign it so the Scottish Government can sit up and take notice of this discrimination by age,” said Amanda.
