Travelodge chief executive Grant Hearn. The hotel chain is opening 14 hotels
Budget hotel chain Travelodge is to create 420 jobs by opening 14 hotels across the UK and Spain this year.
It said it was investing £223 million before the end of the year, with a £141.5m commitment to new hotels and a further £57m being spent on a major refurbishment programme.
The new properties will be in London, Cambridge, Liverpool and Manchester, creating 370 jobs, with the remainder in Barcelona and Madrid.
About 30 places will be offered to unemployed youngsters on a junior management programme.
The investment move comes just four months after the hotel chain completed a major financial restructuring that saw £235m of bank debt written off reducing the total overall burden to £329m.
Under a company voluntary arrangement proposal, landlords of certain Travelodge properties were asked to take major rent cuts.
