ATP Tour player Jonny OMara will be coaching youngsters at Arbroath Tennis Club.

ATP Tour player Jonny O’Mara is returning to Arbroath to coach tennis stars of tomorrow.

Arbroath Tennis Club helped bring through the 20-year-old, who climbed around 1,000 places to be ranked 864 in the world last year.

Club president Graham Crabb said: “We are delighted that Jonny has been able to find the time to do some coaching for us.

“It will provide something a little bit different to what is on offer during the other three weeks.

“The kids will get a chance to improve their skills playing with a top 1,000 ranked player.”

Former club junior Jonny will coach children of all ages during the third of four coaching weeks between July 28 and August 1.

Jonny has just finished competing in an ITF futures grass court event in Felixstowe and will turn out for the North of Scotland at County Week before embarking on his week at the Arbroath club.

After the coaching week in Arbroath he will be attending a block of fitness training with other top UK tennis players including Davis Cup doubles player Colin Fleming.

This is in preparation for the next batch of ITF futures events he will be playing in Egypt and Croatia.

Jonny said: “When I was asked to help out I was more than happy to do so.

“Things just happened to fit in perfectly with my schedule.

“It will also be good to go back and play on the blaes one more time before the courts are upgraded.”

In the last few months to help fund his travels on the ITF futures circuit, Jonny has also been doing some coaching in London.

He has been assisting former British ranked player Oliver Goulding in coaching some of the top juniors in the UK.

Next month the club will begin upgrading its courts to allow tennis to be played all year round following a major fundraising campaign.

This will help the club grow and allow it to build its coaching programme without the constant fear of disruption due to the weather.
