This year’s exam results in Angus were the best in over five years.
The initial results for S4, S5 and S6 pupils have improved across the board.
One in three fifth year pupils passed more than three Highers, up from 26% last year, while 13% passed five Highers.
By the end of sixth year, 39% of pupils had passed three Highers and 26% had passed five Highers, while 18% passed an Advanced Higher.
The number of children achieving five subjects at level five (intermediate two or credit standard grade) by the end of fourth year, also increased from 33% to 37%.
By the end of fourth year, 92% of pupils achieved at least a foundation standard grade award in English and 88% achieved this in maths.
The figures are based on pupils’ initial results and do not take account of the appeal process.
The report by Angus Council’s strategic director of people, Margo Williamson, states: “In S5, we have seen the introduction of the new Higher Grade during 2014-15.
“It is pleasing to note that there has been an improvement in all Higher measures.
“The positive improvement trend continued for young people in S6 with improving results in all measures across Angus.
“2015-16 will see the first running of the revised Advanced Higher qualification.
“It should be noted that this is the best set of initial attainment results in SQA examinations in over five years however, there is no room for complacency.
“Schools and learning will continue to support and challenge all our schools to improve year on year.”
