Montrose’s annual music festival has found a new home after eight years in the wilderness.
MoFest bosses have been responsible for bringing top musical acts to the town for almost a decade, numbering Status Quo, Madness, Deacon Blue and Ash among their successes.
And tickets went on sale yesterday for what organisers hope will be the largest beer festival in Angus next year.
Committee members made the announcement as they moved in to a new HQ in the former New Wynd laundrette.
They took on the premises after using basements and unused back rooms for storage over the last few years.
It will provide a meeting room and shop front to stock instruments as well as local band merchandise, and a box office.
MoFest chairman David Paton said: “As the festival has grown so has the amount of equipment, and we’ve relied on the goodwill of local business and friends for storage space.
“We’ve looked at various premises over the last year but when the opportunity of the old laundry came up we jumped at it and thought, why don’t we make it into more than just a store.
“Mr Stark who owns the property did a lot of the work to it for us for which we are extremely thankful and it again highlights the great partnerships the festival has built up within the local area.”
The cost of putting on the free High Street festival this year was £13,188 due to the expense of sound and lighting, erecting the stage, first aid provision, road closures, bins and the food and drink area.
Policing and security costs at MoFest 2015 increased by 146% to £5,610.
The committee have teamed up with Burnside Brewery to host the Rhythm and Brews Beer Fest on March 3 to 5 in the town hall.
Initial breweries include 6 Degrees North Brewery and Burnside Brewery from Laurencekirk, and Eden Mill Distilling of St Andrews, featuring alongside local gins from the likes of Arbikie.
The final beer list will be published in mid-February and a prosecco bar is also planned.
Tickets will be split over four sessions, with tickets for each being on sale from MoFest HQ, Burnside Brewery, and the sites www.montrosemusicfestival.co.uk and www.burnsidebrewery.co.uk.
The first MoFest quiz is on November 27 and team inquiries can go to enquiries@montrosemusicfestival.co.uk for more information.
