Dog walker finds octopus at Barry Buddon beach and doesn’t run a mile

A dog walker discovered an octopus washed up on the beach at Barry Buddon.

It is thought the octopus, which normally lives in the deep seas, was washed ashore during storms earlier this week.

Showing commendable courage, the woman and a friend returned the octopus to deeper waters in the Tay. However, she said her dog kept well away from the unusual visitor.

Pictures of the unusual visitor to Barry Buddon were posted on Our Monifieth’s Facebook page.

Julia Cable from British Divers Marine Life Rescue said it was unusual for octopi to be washed up on the shoreline.

She said: “Octopus are found in the North Sea but in deep water so they probably don’t wash up on beaches that often.

“I would think this is fairly unusual but after a storm we get all sorts turning up.”
