Ozzys back customers won’t let Dundee skate shop close

A Dundee skate shop reopened at the weekend after a campaign by outraged customers.
Ozzys closed in June but after a strong response from the Tayside skating community, shop manager Michael Szeremet said: “It’s definitely back by popular demand.
“I had a sit down with the two owners, Shiraz and Valy Ossman, recently and we all agreed that it was sad it had come to this.
“It’s such an historic part of the city’s skate scene.
“I think perhaps people just got used to us always being here and then when we closed they were shocked. People started coming to us saying how sad they were.”
The owners had thought that the customer base had moved on and that younger people were shopping elsewhere, but an outraged response from regular customers led to a rethink.
One group suggested crowd-funding the shop and opening it as a community-owned outlet in the city.
The owners are appealing to locals to create artwork for the walls, or bring in photos for display in the shop.
