The Westport Gallery, a 40-year-old fixture of Dundee’s cultural quarter, could close its doors at the end of the month if a buyer is not found.
Owners Neil and Sheena Livingstone said that after four decades of trading it is with “a heavy heart” they had to make the decision.
Mr Livingstone said: “We retired a few years ago and hoped the business would be able to continue but we finally had to admit that we could not give enough support to the gallery for it to be a vital concern.
“In the early ’70s as art students, we started selling our own work as well as works of art from other students.
“This grew into the Nethergate Gallery at 140 Nethergate.
“A decade later as the business grew, we moved the retail side to the Westport and the manufacturing and export business to Lower Pleasance.
“When Sheena joined me she was able to find unusual and unique works of creativity that guided the gallery into a golden period.”
Mr Livingstone added that the studio in the Westport will honour all gift vouchers, credit notes and outstanding orders.
