For most people who have taken the plunge and bought a drone, a crash would be a minor disaster.
However, for one Dundee enthusiast it has turned into a business opportunity.
The video above shows the moment Dale Summerton’s drone plummeted from the sky while he was filming shots of Mains Castle.
The Phantom drone fell to the ground and its chassis was damaged, with Dale thinking it was going to cost him hundreds of pounds to repair.
However, one of his colleagues at Dundee computer repair business 3000 RPM said he would have a look at it, identified the broken parts and ordered replacements for the princely sum of £60.
That sparked a business idea, and just a few days ago 3000 RPM began offering a repair service which has had immediate success.
Dale said: “We got three in right away for repair as soon as we started advertising and have already sold quite a few new drones in just a couple of days.
“They’ve been the gadget of the year and loads of people have been getting them and obviously, being inexperienced, have been crashing them.”
He continued: “Then this guy asked if I would do some filming at Mains Castle and I hit a tree.
“Thankfully it came down to the ground it could still be up there otherwise.
“The thing is not many of them crash into the ground because you’ve lost control it’s usually hitting stuff like trees and buildings or power lines, things you can’t judge too well sometimes.
“I didn’t know anything about them before but they’ve got a huge amount of uses.”
