An Angus man who kicked and punched a man repeatedly while he was lying unconscious on the ground is facing jail.
Robert Paul McGregor, 37, of Westfield Place, Carnoustie, admitted severely assaulting Leno Sardella after rendering him unconscious following an altercation outside a strip club in Dundee.
The court was shown CCTV footage of the incident, which happened moments after Mr Sardella was seen to head-butt McGregor in the doorway of Private Eyes gentleman’s club on Rattray Street.
McGregor admitted that on August 28 last year, at Ward Road, he assaulted Mr Sardella, punched him on the head, knocked him to the ground, rendered him unconscious and repeatedly kicked him on the head and body and repeatedly punched him on the head, all to his injury.
He also admitted assaulting Rory Mulligan by punching him on the head and body.
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told the court the accused and Mr Sardella were standing outside the club shortly before 2am.
She said: “The complainer approached the accused and head-butted him, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head on a step.
“Mr Sardella walked away and on to Ward Road and was followed shortly afterwards by the accused. The complainer turned and walked towards him and was seen to be gesticulating towards the accused, who walked away back towards the club.
“The complainer walked towards him again and the accused ran up to him and punched him on the head, causing him to fall against the building next to him and on to the pavement.
“The accused then kicked him on the head repeatedly while he was on the ground.”
Ms Robertson told the court Mr Sardella’s friend, Rory Mulligan, 30, had come to help and tried to pull the accused away and was punched four times on the head by the accused.
“The accused then continued to kick Mr Sardella on the head and body, then in the face.
“This kick rendered him unconscious but the accused then kicked him twice on the body and punched him twice on the head while he was unconscious.”
The fiscal showed the court CCTV footage of the assault on Ward Road and the CCTV footage in the doorway of the premises, which showed the initial head-butt by Mr Sardella, who did not face any action from the Crown.
Sheriff Alastair Brown remanded McGregor in custody until July 25.
