Police Scotland have not ruled out foul play as the cause of a fatal fire at Piperdam holiday resort.
An early-morning blaze destroyed one of the wooden lodges at the resort in the early hours of Thursday morning.
A body was discovered in the burnt out lodge on Friday.
It is believed the body may belong to missing Aberdeen man Jamie McLennan, who was last seen in the Westport area of Dundee at 3.30 on Thursday morning.
Formal identification of the body is expected today.
He had been staying with two registered guests in one of the lodges. Neither of them were in the lodge at the time of the fire.
Although Mr McLennan’s family have been told about the discovery of the body in the burnt-out lodge, formal identification of the corpse is not likely to take place until today at the earliest.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation and police said it is too early to rule out foul play.
A spokeswoman said: “It is certainly too early to rule anything out at this stage.
“The investigation is still ongoing and a formal identification will take place this week.”
The probe into the cause of the blaze is being carried out by Police Scotland in conjunction with Scottish Fire and Rescue.
The lodge was a stand-alone building and no other lodges or buildings were affected by the fire.
There was no requirement for evacuation of any other building during the incident.
Although there has been no confirmation the remains found in the burnt-out lodge belong to Mr McLennan, friends of the 26-year-old have posted tributes to him online.
Forbes Crichton posted on Mr McLennan’s Facebook page: “I’ll have a beer for you sleep tight brother memories never forgotten x.”
