Piperdam golf and leisure resort is hoping to boost its visitor numbers by building a leisure and activity centre.
It has lodged a planning application with Angus Council for the development, which would include a covered access walkway from its existing Osprey building and car parking.
A spokeswoman said: “Dundee and Angus is set to hit the big time and as a local business we must be prepared to move with the times and make sure we are ready.”
She continued: “With the introduction of this facility it will give us the tools to be able to compete with the likes of Centre Parcs.”
The resort is planning to offer various sporting activities, including ball games, gymnastics, martial arts, keep fit, dance, yoga, racket sports, archery and fencing.
The spokeswoman said: “We will benefit by increasing holiday lettings throughout the winter season, which in turn has a financial impact on the local economy, with each of our current 150,000 guests contributing financially in local spend.
“Local producers and builders will be sourced, and when complete this project will create in excess of eight full-time positions.”
Piperdam has embarked on an energy efficiency drive to cut its carbon footprint by 50% and, if approved, the new centre will be fuelled by the same biomass technology being used elsewhere in the resort.
The spokeswoman added: “Healthy people make for a healthy lifestyle and we aim to take this a step further by reducing our carbon footprint by using woodchip renewal energy throughout the building. Our aim is to produce a market leader product that will be used by locals and visitors for leisure, sport and ancillary use.”
