The developer of a mobile phone app that will show off Dundee’s most popular attractions believes it could aid the bid for the City of Culture 2017 title.
David Romilly, of Waracle, said: “There’s only a minority of local governments commissioning apps and it’s the forward-looking ones that are actually doing it.
“It shows that Dundee City Council is one of the most innovative councils in doing this. It’s all part of the same momentum and will help to support our City of Culture bid.
“We have been involved in the bid and have produced a lot of videos about getting behind the campaign. It’s about selling Dundee as a cultural destination.”
Software engineers have been working alongside council staff for the past month and the app, which will be free to download, is expected to be released by the end of the year.
It will provide information on venues such as DCA, the McManus and eventually the V&A design museum, helping tourists to plan their visits to the city.
“For tourists it will be the first thing they see when they get off the train and they will want to download it and find out what’s going on,” Mr Romilly said.
