The Tayside porters strike could come to an end after union officials and NHS chiefs agreed to a review.
Unite has accepted the terms of a review by the Scottish Terms and Conditions Committee (STAC) and both sides confirmed talks will begin on Wednesday.
The development marks the end of more than eight weeks of deadlock.
NHS Tayside agreed to terms on May 17, but proceedings were held up while Unite renegotiated the format of talks.
The union disputed the inclusion of another union, Unison, which had previously supported NHS Tayside’s position.
Unite regional organiser Colin Coupar said he was “delighted” to finally see matters progressing.
“At last we have managed to get an agreement that will see evidence considered by people of standing.
“This will inevitably lead to NHS Tayside having to resume more detailed discussions directly with us.”
A spokesperson for NHS Tayside said: “It has been agreed that STAC will undertake a review of the process relating to the grading of a number of Band 1 porters.
“The committee has proposed terms of reference for this review and we have already formally confirmed NHS Tayside’s agreement to these.
“Currently we are waiting for confirmation that Unite have agreed terms of reference with STAC.
“We are committed to reaching a resolution to this dispute and we will abide by any findings made by STAC following the review.”
Health Secretary Shona Robison said STAC will now look at the basis of the dispute and bring a new and independent perspective to the table.
She added: “Resolving this dispute will require compromise on both sides and quickly finding a solution to this situation is in the best interests of patients at NHS Tayside.
“I’m pleased to see that both Unite and NHS Tayside have now agreed to the terms of the review and that both parties will meet with STAC co-chairs as part of that process.
“This is positive progress, and I would encourage both parties to engage fully in this process.”
