Bonfest attracts AC/DC fans from all over the world.

Two high-profile events taking place in Tayside in the coming weeks have been awarded grants by VisitScotland.

Kirriemuir’s Bonfest, which celebrates the life and music of AC/DC frontman Bon Scott, who spent his early years in the town, was awarded £15,000.

Bonfest, which will celebrate its 10th year when it runs from April 29 to May 1 will see a new outdoor circus tent arena, street party and the unveiling of a statue of Scott in the town.

Dundee International Design Festival, which will take place at West Ward Works, has received a grant of £17,500.

The inaugural design festival, which starts on May 25, will have a large exhibition, talks, demonstrations and workshops.

The grants are supported by the EventScotland National Funding Programme, as part of VisitScotland’s work to deliver the national events strategy, Scotland the Perfect Stage.

A total of 13 events in Scotland have shared more than £150,000.

Graham Galloway of Bonfest, said: “The funding has been absolutely essential in helping us grow our festival. Without it we would have been unable to be nearly as ambitious as we have been, more than doubling our capacity and introducing an even larger free street party event.

“The festival is by far the busiest weekend in the town, and is hugely important to local businesses.”

Anna Day, Manager Unesco City of Design Dundee and Dundee Design Festival added: “The festival will highlight design excellence in Dundee, Scotland and internationally.

We’ll showcase designers in areas such as healthcare, gaming and textiles.”
