A man driving through Dunfermline town centre was butted when he got out of the car to ask a drunk to stop blocking the road.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Gary Donaldson, 31, of Blamey Crescent, Cowdenbeath, admitted that on September 19 at Kirkgate, he assaulted Cameron Laird by butting him on the head and punching him on the head.
Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia said Mr Laird was driving his car, accompanied by his daughter, when the incident occurred at about 8pm.
As he drove past the City Chambers, he saw what appeared to be a drunk person staggering across the road.
“Mr Laird slowed down, hoping for him to move on to the pavement so he could drive past but he remained on the road,” said the depute fiscal.
Mr Laird got out of his car to ask him to move out of the way.
“He suddenly butted Mr Laird, causing him to stagger backwards,” added Mr Kapadia.
The police were then called. Mr Laird sustained a swollen and bruised cheek.
Defence solicitor Lucy Durie said her client had been drinking with friends.
“He accepts his behaviour was completely unacceptable and perhaps the alcohol he had drunk had clouded his judgment on that night.”
Sheriff Craig McSherry fined Donaldson £450 and ordered him to pay compensation of £150 to his victim.
