A pervert who raped two young children over a 14-month period has been jailed for 12 years.
Callum Young, 35, abused the two kids – who cannot be named for legal reasons – at addresses in the Fife area between December 2010 and February 2012.
Young, of Methil, Fife, was convicted of two charges of rape after a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh last month.
The court heard how the children were aged eight and five when the abuse began.
Sentence had been deferred until Monday in order for the court to obtain reports about Young’s character.
On Monday, defence advocate Ronnie Renucci told judge Lord Kinclaven that his client didn’t accept that his client had done anything wrong.
Mr Renucci also said that Young suffered from mental problems and couldn’t read or write.
Lord Kinclaven also ordered that Young be supervised by the authorities for two years following his release from jail.
The judge also said that custody was the only sentence available to him. Police Scotland welcomed the 12-year sentence.
Detective Chief Inspector Pauline McCallum of the Public Protection Unit in Fife said: “This conviction was made possible as a result of strong partnership working between both statutory and voluntary agencies. The investigation was carried out by specially trained dedicated staff over a protracted period of time, working closely with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal’s Office (COPFS) in order to achieve the outcome.
“The conviction highlights Police Scotland’s continued focus to protect those most vulnerable in our communities whilst preventing further risk of harm.”
