He is the first SNP member of the committee, although his north-east Fife predecessor, Sir Menzies Campbell, served on it during the last parliament. The committee scrutinises the work of the UK Government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office and will examine the run-up to the European referendum. Mr Gethins said: “It is always good to be able to put north-east Fife on the map.”
