Detectives investigating the violent death of Duncan Banks in Dunfermline are searching for a murder weapon.
The 39-year-old, who was foundlifeless at his home in Skye Road on Monday, had suffered multiple head injuries.
Speaking outside Mr Banks’Abbeyview flat yesterday, Detective Chief Inspector Keith Hardie said: “We’re certainly satisfied that he’s been struck on the head by what is clearly a weapon.
“Because of the nature of the injury, it’s very difficult to say what type of weapon we’re looking for.
“It’s a matter of searching the local vicinity to look for anything that may be connected to the crime.”
DCI Hardie said investigating officers were following lines of inquiry and it was possible Mr Banks knew his killer orkillers.
“There were no obvious signs ofthe house being ransacked,” he added.
“It’s difficult to understand themotivation for the attack.
“Personally, I don’t think it’s random but it’s far too early to say until we know exactly who is responsible and bring them to justice.
“We have to keep an open mind. Part of our job is to build up a profile of the individual and anyone who might know him, and might have had a grudge against him.”
DCI Hardie made a fresh appeal for witnesses, as police piece together Mr Banks’s last movements.
Police believe the attack happened at some point between Sunday afternoon and 5pm on Monday, when his body was discovered.
Officers were called to the scene after friends, who he was dog sitting for, were unable to contact him.
A neighbour said the friends used a ladder to reach a window of the top floor flat and raised the alarm after seeingMr Banks lying on his living roomfloor.
“A post mortem was held yesterday and we’re now satisfied that we’redealing with a murder investigation,” said DCI Hardie.
“We’ll do everything we can to bring this to a resolution as quickly as possible by bringing the person or persons responsible to justice.”
