A hapless dealer who smuggled drugs into Perth Prison was caught after the inmate he handed them to began to choke on the package.
John Robertson stuffed the wrap of heroin into William Strathern’s mouth during a visit.
But the package containing drugs worth nearly £1,000 got caught in Strathern’s throat and prison officers spotted what was going on as the prisoner struggled to breathe.
Now Robertson is behind bars, too, after he appeared at Perth Sheriff Court to admit supplying drugs at the prison on November 7, last year. He was jailed for 21 months.
The court heard the 53-year-old had agreed to take drugs into the jail to pay off debts.
Sheriff William Wood told Robertson, of Dunfermline: “The fact you have been remanded is no one’s fault but your own. People who deal class A drugs must expect a custodial sentence.”
