The festive season will officially start in Dunfermline today when Santa arrives to switch on the Christmas lights.
A full day of events, including live music, a radio roadshow, food and drink stalls and children’s funfair rides, will be held in the town centre as the countdown to the big switch on begins.
Following the success of the recent fireworks display, another huge turn out is expected.
A Christmas market is taking place in the town centre from 11am to 3pm and there will be plenty of musical entertainment.
The Opus 8 choir from Culross will be performing at The Hub at 3.30pm and the Woodmill Singers will be entertaining shoppers upstairs in the Kingsgate Centre at 3pm.
Also in the Kingsgate there will be free Christmas crafts for kids with Miss Pauley.
There will be funfair rides in the High Street gap site, the location of a special postbox for letters to Santa.
At the Glen Gates, the Forth One roadshow will start at 2.30pm hosted by DJs Arlene and Dingo.
It promises to be a real party occasion with prizes, visits from pantomime characters and the return to Dunfermline of tribute act One and Only Direction.
The Christmas parade, with Santa, will leave Walmer Drive at 4.15pm and head down the High Street.
He will be joined by an assortment of friends including panto stars, stiltwalkers and performers from the Limelight theatre company. They will arrive at the Glen Gates for the switch at 5pm.
Dunfermline Delivers manager Lisa Edwards said: “The Christmas lights switch on is always a big occasion in Dunfermline and we have been working hard to make sure we have another memorable day this year.”
Events manager Chris Foote added: “We’re really pleased that so many community groups and businesses have got involved in this year’s event.
“There will be a few surprises throughout the day so we’re encouraging everyone to come along early and join in the fun.”
Meanwhile, children’s favourite Peppa Pig will be doing the honours as the Christmas lights are turned on in Glenrothes’ Kingdom Shopping Centre on Sunday.
The cartoon star will be appearing from noon in the centre’s Lyon Square before the big switch-on at 3pm.
