Puffin Billy is back on track at Craigtoun Country Park.
Last featured at the park four decades ago, the new tractor-drawn road train has been refurbished ready for the grand open weekend at the park, on the outskirts of St Andrews, on June 29 and 30.
It was less than two months ago that the Friends of Craigtoun, which now operates all the attractions at the park, was given a vintage tractor on permanent loan for the Puffin Billy project.
While the tractor was sent off to be professionally restored and refurbished, volunteers managed to track down two road train carriages for sale in North Wales, where they had been used for a road train in Caernarfon and Anglesey.
The carriages were delivered to Craigtoun where volunteers set about stripping and restoring them, with the first now completed and the second nearing completion.
This week the new Puffin Billy was put to the test by an outing of pupils from Ceres Primary School and they all gave it a big thumbs up, as did accompanying parents and other visitors to the park.
Finished in a bright red livery, it matches the Rio Grande miniature railway that is already a popular feature at the park.
Both trains will be getting up a head of steam for the open weekend at the park, postponed from March because of bad weather.
Over the weekend some live acts and bands will be rekindling their association with Craigtoun from the seventies and eighties, including the Billy Anderson Band and magician Roger the Dodger.
Car parking and admission to the park is free and there is a charge for using attractions.
