£212 million funding boost to make Stirling a ‘location of choice’

Millions is being invested to boost Stirling's economy.
Millions is being invested to boost Stirling's economy.

Investment totalling more than £212 million will make Stirling a “location of choice”, a new report by the Scottish Cities Alliance (SCA) has claimed.

A raft of ambitious measures will ensure the city can boast a vibrant and growing economy, opportunities for all and a high quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

Upgraded broadband connections and improvements to Stirling railway station, are among the projects in the pipeline.

One of the biggest projects, billed as providing a major boost to business, is the creation of a new £75m road opening up Kildean Business Park and linking Cornton and Bridge of Allan to the M9.

The SCA report states that the investment will help cement Stirling’s position as “a location of choice with a vibrant and growing economy, a place with jobs and opportunities for all, providing a high quality of life”.

Development for the city will focus on four key objectives, a vibrant city centre, a well connected and accessible city, a digitally-connected Stirling and a place for business.

The infrastructure investment outlined for Stirling forms part of a £6 billion Scotland-wide blueprint outlining the economic future of Scotland’s seven cities.

Stirling Council leader Johanna Boyd said: “Our major cities have always played an important role in driving forward the economic success of this country.

“By collaborating, sharing best practice and exploring the different synergies that exist, the SCA is maximising the sum of its parts and creating a more strategic framework for the future economic growth and sustainability of our cities.”
