The 2015 Brit Awards proved a night to forget for Madonna as she tumbled off the stage at the start of her performance of Living for Love.
The 56-year-old was pulled off the stage by one of her – presumably soon to be unemployed – backing dancers as he tried to remove her cape.
Instead, he managed to pull the singer down stairs at the front of the stage.
The singer gamely carried on and later took to Instagram to tell fans she was alright. she also pinned the blame on designers Armani who she claims made the cape too tight.
In fairness to Madonna, she does have experience of this sort of thing.
And at least she can console herself with the knowledge that she is not the only singer to have taken a tumble on stage.
For example, is there anything more heartwarming that this video of Bono at a U2 concert a few years ago?
Madonna was not even the first singer to discover that fancy costumes and stairs on stage do not mix, as Beyonce did in this clip from 2009.
Miley Cyrus, meanwhile, didn’t even have stairs to contend with.
Pop manchild Justin Bieber also seems to make a habit of falling on stage. For shame.
Even the great Nick Cave is prone to the odd unplanned stage dive. This clip from the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Iceland shows the Australian plumb the depths around the 8m 44 mark, as The Bad Seeds perform Jubilee Street.
