Navy bomb disposal experts were called to Monifieth beach after two wartime relics were found.
A passer-by raised the alarm shortly before 2pm on Monday after finding what appeared to be an old mortar shell in the sand.
The torpedo-shaped device, an air-dropped parachute illuminator, was near the high water mark.
A depth charge was then spotted below the water line.
Officers cordoned off a section of the beach and the path along the TayView Caravan and Camping Park to keep the public at a safe distance until the explosive ordnance disposal team from Faslane arrived.
They sent photos of the objects to the team to assess what they would have to deal with.
The experts arrived at 7.30pm and carried out a controlled explosion of the rusted mortar, which was 30 inches long.
Despite the potential drama, there was little more than passing interest from the handful of dog-walkers in the area.
The depth charge found to be a First World War charge case was taken to Barry Buddon firing range for disposal.
