Night of song to remember young musician Ross Ramsay

The family of tragic Angus man Ross Ramsay have organised a concert in his memory.

Mum Sandra said organising the show at Arbroath’s Webster Theatre has helped her cope with the loss of her son.

Ross was found dead in Glasgow in 2013 after going missing from his home in the Maryhill area of the city.

He had embarked on a promising career in the music and theatre industry and had secured a new job with the National Theatre of Scotland before his death.

The 30-year-old was regarded as a friendly, modest and talented man but one who was sadly affected by mental health issues, which had eventually led to his death.

The concert on April 18 will raise much-needed funding for the Scottish Association for Mental Health’s community support network and amateur dramatics group Art Moves, which works with people who have learning and physical difficulties.

“The main aim of the night is to raise funds and being active in arranging it helps me to cope with the loss of my son,” Sandra told The Courier.

“Ross was very much involved in the music side of theatre work and working with disadvantaged children.”

The concert will be a family affair with performances from dad Jim and brother Ryan, who is the drummer in Made of Mannequins.

Ross’s friend, Michael Brandie, will also be performing his magic, with other acts such as singers Rebecca Connelly, Alan and Val Mowatt and Cheryl Brown recently confirmed.

Sandra, who works for Angus Council, added: “Thank you to all the amazing people who have been so quick to offer support.

“Special thanks must go to James Hutcheson, who offered to produce the show, and to Paul Smith, of Apex Acoustics, who is providing the music free of charge.

“Since Ross died, I have met so many people who have been bereaved by suicide and I want to raise awareness of the support available.”

Tickets are now on sale at the Webster Theatre box office.
