Firm closing Angus poultry factory because it’s too far from Suffolk

Food company One Stop Halal has explained its decision to close an Angus food processing factory.

The move was confirmed last week, and a spokesman for the firm said: “We can confirm that as a result of a strategic review of our manufacturing operations, we have entered into a period of consultation with our colleagues at the Letham slaughtering site.

“The review identified that the location of the Letham facility in relation to the manufacturing facility in Haughley Park, Suffolk, adds significant supply chain complexities and reduces the ability for the business to react quickly to changes in customer and market demand.”

The site used to be operated by Mitchells of Letham, before being sold to the 2 Sisters Food Group in 2007.

It was bought by One Stop Halal in September 2013.

The firm said the Letham site would close as alternative slaughtering facilities have been identified at Eye in Suffolk.

“Our immediate priority now is to have meaningful discussions with our colleagues during this consultation period to see if other alternatives can be found to minimise the impact of our proposals,” the spokesman added.

“One Stop will provide ongoing support to colleagues affected by the proposed Letham site closure and assist in identifying alternative employment.”
